Blazing Bones are former wizards or priests that have been twisted into horrible undead monsters by a combination of a malfunctioning Contingency spell intended to save the caster's life and a magical inferno of some kind.

They're in near-constant agony due to being on fire all the time and the only way they can reduce the pain is by sharing it with others. This tends to result in total insanity sooner or later.
